About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented, empathetic, and people-focused Entry-Level Bookkeeper to manage bookkeeping tasks while providing excellent customer support. This role balances transaction management, problem-solving, and communication with clients, ensuring accurate financial records and maintaining high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities
1. Transaction Management
- Review and categorize transactions that cannot be auto-categorized (~20% of total volume)
- Reconcile monthly books for assigned client portfolio
- Identify and flag unusual or questionable transactions
- Ensure accurate coding according to standard accounting practices
- Manage 5–6 clients on average per month in a team of ~30
2. Customer Communication & Support
- Respond to client questions via email or support platform regarding transactions and bookkeeping
- Conduct brief consultations to clarify transaction details
- Handle complex cases requiring back-and-forth communication
- Maintain an empathetic, professional, and people-oriented communication style
3. Quality Assurance
- Review work for accuracy before monthly close
- Ensure compliance with bookkeeping standards
- Flag issues requiring escalation to internal accountants or advisors
4. Documentation & Process
- Document all client interactions
- Follow internal bookkeeping procedures and workflows
- Maintain organized records for audit and reporting purposes
Qualifications
- Prior bookkeeping experience (any level)
- High English fluency, both written and verbal
- Familiarity with general accounting principles
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities for manual transaction review
- Empathetic and people-oriented approach
- Comfortable with asynchronous communication and US time zones
- Experience with Big 4 accounting firms (KPMG, Deloitte, EY, PwC) is a plus
Tools & Software
- Zendesk or similar customer support platforms
- QuickBooks or other financial software; willingness to learn proprietary bookkeeping tools
- General comfort with SaaS platforms and financial software
